Become a member
The CFA offers several levels of membership. Read below to see which level is right for you.
Friend of the Fishermen
This membership is for concerned citizens who would like to support the commercial fishing industry by supporting the Commercial Fishermen of America. This is a non-voting membership.
The annual dues for the Friend of the Fishermen Membership is $25. View and print an application here.
Full Organizational Membership
Any commercial fishing organization made up of licensed commercial fishing men and women, their spouses, or retired or displaced fishermen and that is licensed to do business in any U.S. federally or state managed fishery is eligible for membership and may submit an application for voting membership.
A commercial fishing organization, for these purposes, is defined as any documented group with the majority of its membership being state licensed or federally permitted commercial fishermen, owners and/or operators of federal or state permitted fishing vessels, including non-licensed crew members who are engaged in harvesting, preserving, handling, and packing–shore side or at sea
Someone engaged in the packing field is defined as a person employed at or owning an unloading facility for vessels, which may freeze or ship fish. The facility is not engaged in cleaning, or in value added processes. Groups eligible for Organizational Membership include umbrella organizations of fishing associations that meet the same criteria.
The annual dues for Organizational Membership are $500. View and print an application here.
Support Organizational Membership
The Support Organizational Membership is for commercial fishing organizations that fit the above description and support the mission of the Commercial Fishermen of America, but cannot afford the full membership. Organizations that are Support Organizational Members are not eligible for board of directors seating.
The annual dues for Support Organizational Membership are $250. View and print an application here.
Individual Membership
A professional commercial fisherman, fisherman’s spouse, displaced or retired fisherman (including crew members) who is licensed to do business in any U.S. federally or state managed fishery is eligible for Individual Membership.
Individual Members are not entitled to vote. However, up to eight Individual Members (one from each region) shall be elected to serve two-year terms on the board of directors. These eight elected individuals holding “at-large seats” on the board will be entitled to vote. Individuals serving at-large seats may be re-elected by the membership to serve additional terms on the board.
The annual dues for Individual Membership are $50. View and print an application here.
Associate Membership
Any person or group having active interest in the advancement of the commercial fishing industry who does not qualify for group membership can be considered as a Support-Associate or Business Membership. This membership category does not have voting privileges, but Associate Members will receive mailings of interest to the industry.
The annual dues for Support Membership are $200. View and print an application here.
